Holding hands – what a picture

Updated: Mar 30, 2023

When I caught a glimpse of the two of you

Holding hands as you struggled to cross a busy road

Knees not quite as sturdy as they once were

Hips are not as robust as they used to be,

Hair as white as snow;

His eyes locked in yours as well as the road to assure you

That you are safe within his care

It warmed my heart, for in the autumn of your lives

In quarter three, in any one year, you instilled within me hope

As you showed the world, you are still in love

Like an evergreen, through winter, summer, spring and autumn,

Green is what you remain

Though some of your leaves may fall away due to the fellows of life

Intact, the tree remains

Thank you for creating the memory, one that will leave an indelible mark

Which will last a lifetime.
